Vancouver Canucks Vs. Nashville Predators – Match Analysis

On Monday night, in NHL Game 6, the Vancouver Canucks defeated the Nashville Predators 2-1. By winning the best of seven series 4-2, Vancouver will now meet the winner between the Detroit Red Wings and the San Jose Sharks.

After finishing on top during the NHL’s regular season, Vancouver began the Cup chase as the 3-1 favorites. The Canucks has not been to a conference final for 17 years.

Roberto Luongo made 23 saves for the Canucks, who last made it to the conference finals in 1994 when they defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs in five games to advance to their second Stanley Cup Finals while Mason Raymond and Daniel Sedin had first period goals.

In the second period David Legwand scored. The Predators, who were in the semifinals for the first time in club history after dispatching Anaheim in the first round, Pekka Rinne made 17 saves for them.

Even though a pair of third period goals from Joel Ward helped Nashville win an elimination game for the first time in franchise history, Vancouver had a chance to win the series at home on Saturday. In order to take a 2-0 lead, the Canucks, though, came out on fire and scored two goals less than two minutes apart.

As Ryan Suter turned the puck over in his own end the first goal came at the 7:45 mark. Although Ryan Kesler again got the puck and from behind the left side of the net he centered it for Raymond, who shifted to the backhand and slid the puck in, he grabbed the disc and his first pass attempt was blocked.

On Saturday the Vancouver Canucks’ Western Conference final series will begin.

Sunday Clash Between Detroit Red Wings And Chicago Blackhawks

On Sunday afternoon the Detroit Red Wings will skate into Chicago to face the Blackhawks in what could be a potential first round playoff matchup.

In NHL Odds and NHL Betting, Detroit is at 8-1 to win the Stanley Cup. In NHL free picks the Blackhawks are at 18-1.

For both teams this game will actually be the second of a home and home series to close out the 2010-2011 regular season. When it comes to playoff berths and seeding surprisingly, with only two games remaining for both clubs there is still a lot left to be decided.

With a crucial victory over the St. Louis Blues on Wednesday night, Chicago helped its chances of making the playoffs again this year. With four points ahead of Dallas who is in ninth place and on the outside of the playoff picture looking in, that overtime victory puts the Blackhawks in seventh place in the Western Conference. During the weekend series with Detroit, Chicago will really help secure its playoff status with at least one point.

After winning the Central Division last weekend On the other hand, the Red Wings are already locked into a playoff position. The Red Wings have made the postseason for a record twenty years in a row with this year’s playoff berth. In all of the four major sports this streak is also the longest streak for any team.

Detroit still has a chance to jump into the number two seed in the Western Conference, while the Red Wings are gearing up for another long playoff run. In the standings, currently the Red Wings trail San Jose by one point. The Red Wings will need to try their best to win these last two remaining games against Chicago over the weekend if they would like to secure home ice for the first two rounds. In Stanley Cup betting lines the Detroit Red Wings are favorite to win this match.

Sunday Clash Between Chicago Blackhawks And Nashville Predators

On Sunday, the Chicago Blackhawks will clash with the Nashville. Both these teams are fighting to overtake the Detroit Red Wings in the Central Division as these two teams are division rivals. While the Predators are sitting at 23-13-6 on the season, the Blackhawks are currently 23-18-3 on the season. In NHL lines, the betting odds for this matchup have not yet published.

Against each other, these teams match up very well. In the NHL, the Predators are one of the best defensive teams. For each game, they are only allowing 2.3 goals, which is the second best average of any team in the league. As they have a fantastic penalty kill percentage, much of their success defensively has come. In the NHL in penalty kill percentage at 85.7%, they are 3rd.

In every way the Blackhawks are almost the opposite of the Predators. In the league, the Blackhawks have one of the best offenses. This season, they are averaging 3.1 goals per game. In the NHL, that is good for the 5th best average. The Blackhawks’ fantastic attack on the power play has been the key for them. In the NHL at 24.8 percent, the Black Hawks have the best power play conversion percentage.

If the defense of the Predators will be able to stand against the offense of the Blackhawks will be very interesting to watch. Whether or not the Predators can get going offensively will be one other factor in this game. They have only managed to score 2.5 goals per game this season, while they only allow 2.3 goals per game.

On Sunday night, this game will take place in Chicago.

NHL Playoffs – Preview – Game 2 – Red Wings vs. Sharks

In San Jose, on Thursday night, Pavelski led the San Jose Sharks to victory over the Detroit Red Wings in the first game of their second round series. Over the Red Wings, Pavelski scored three goals and San Jose was held on for a 4-3 victory.

For the Sharks in the first period, Pavelski scored a goal, as did Dany Heatley and Devin Setoguchi.

Within a span of seventy-nine seconds, three goals were scored. In one minute nineteen seconds, the three goals were the fastest in Sharks playoff history. Detroit made the score 3-2 but in the third period Pavelski scored his second goal, a five on three power play goal, and the Sharks would prevail 4-3. Brian Rafalski, Johan Franzen and Dan Cleary scored for the Red Wings.

On Sunday night, the second game is also in San Jose. Son Jose played without Patrick Marleau, their regular season leading scorer. He is still listed as day to day and was scratched because of an illness. If San Jose wants to finally advance past the second round, Patrick Marleau must get healthy. Sharks must produce as he plays on their top line.

Because of their playoff experience, some still consider Detroit the favorites. The San Jose Sharks, who have yet to make it past the second round, are considered playoff underachievers. If Detroit wants to win the series, they must improve their power play.  On the power play, the Sharks were able to hold them 0 for 5.

Detroit Red Wings Faces Off Minnesota Wild

As the Minnesota Wild head to Detroit to face the Red Wings on Friday, a heated NHL rivalry is set to continue and set the NCAA betting lines on fire. As both teams are still fighting for a spot in the 2010 playoffs, this game is quite important for them.

The Minnesota Wild have accumulated 76 points so far this season with a record of 35 wins, 32 losses, and 6 overtime losses. Unfortunately for them, they will need to pick up steam very quickly to make the playoffs. With 9 games remaining, the Wild trail 8th seeded Red Wings by 11 points. In order to claim the last spot, there are also three other teams that the Wild would need to pass.

The Red Wings, look to be in good standing to make the playoffs on the other hand. The Red Wings has a record of 37 wins, 13 overtime losses and 23 regular time losses. Their record adds up to 87 points, which is good for the 8th and final spot in the playoffs. The Red Wings could drastically improve their positioning with a few more wins as they are presently in the playoffs. They are presently only 3 points behind the 5th seeded Los Angeles Kings. The Red Wings are only 4 points ahead of the Calgary Flames on the other hand.

In this season, the Red Wings and Wild have already met three times. The Wild won one and the Red Wings won two games, in their previous meetings. The Wild will look to even up the season series and improve its sports betting odds on Friday.
